Many people have suggested I write a book about the adventures of our dog, Vina. She’s always up to something. Instead of a book, I’ll start with a blog.
The story begins long ago way before she was born. We adopted a beautiful white Siberian Husky mix I named Angel because I found her on a long run and she was my running partner for years before arthritis got the best of her. I referred to her as my ”Guardian Angel” Our entire family has loved Angel since we got her….. Well, most of us any way. But that’s another story altogether. Angel has truly been the perfect dog. She’s well behaved, friendly and doesn’t bark. As she has continued to age, Doug has expressed wanting to get another “Angel”. I wasn’t as excited about it because her one drawback is shedding on my dark wood floors.
Fast forward a bit. I get a call one day while out shopping and Doug tells me about this white purebred Siberian Husky puppy he’s getting me for my birthday (I didn’t quite remember asking for a dog). Apparently one of his student employees bought Kiwi (yes, that was her first name) about 3 weeks earlier and puppy raising was turning out to be quite challenging. He said she has to get rid of her (she’s 3 months old) and she’s giving her away. The words “giving” is what caught his attention. He wouldn’t have to spend a dime for my birthday! He told me to think of a name. What????
Being an animal lover, he knew it would be difficult for me to say no; although I seriously considered it. As I was walking into the HEB in Conroe, I just happened to walk in where the wine was located. In a daze, I wondered through the hundreds of bottles of wine. One of them, Vina, caught my eye. Probably because I subconsciously knew she would be the reason for future consumption.
I was not ready for a baby in the house. Well, not the four legged kind anyway. We had just been blessed with a beautiful granddaughter (Ava) and that was perfect. Ready or not, Vina arrived!
